Meet Elisabete and Julio
Florista da Beta is proudly owned and operated as a team by Elisabete “Elizabeth” Berto and her husband, Julio Santos. Elisabete originally holds an academic background in teaching Physics and Chemistry. However, after difficult years in the education system in Portugal, she chose to leave teaching to rediscover her first passion: flowers and handcrafted design.
Before officially opening our shop on April 1, 2017, Elisabete worked for 11 years as a florist in her sister’s shop, where she developed her floral design skills and deepened her love for flowers. Today, she brings about 20 years of total floral experience to the business. She provides the creative vision and a natural “magic touch” for turning flowers into beautiful arrangements, while Julio provides support, inspiration, and partnership in the daily operation of the shop.

The Garden Bench Symbol
Our florist shop is uniquely anchored by our store symbol: a garden bench. This special piece was a way to honor Elisabete’s father, José Faria Brito. He was a bricklayer by trade, and a simple, honest, and very intelligent man. He dreamed of studying, but life didn’t allow him to.
But art always inspired him. He would look at old, unused pieces and manage to mold and transform them into something beautiful and original. This garden bench was created by combining an iron bed with a wine barrel. After hard hours of work, he would retreat to his workshop and manage to create small works of art. This bench was, for many years, part of the garden of the house he himself built. It was the house where Elisabete grew up, and where she learned to care for flowers with her mother, Otilia de Jesus Brito.
At 68 years old in 2013, her father died. The family sold the house, but the bench came with Elisabete. Now, it is the symbol of our business. It represents what we learned from this great man: hard work, honesty, dedication, and love for what we do. We channel these exact core values into every floral arrangement we create.
